What’s Broadside Folding? The name comes from folding the longer dimension (or broadside) of a sheet first. For a 28” x 40” sheet, the first fold would bring to the piece to 14” x 40”. Most folders can only handle sheets that are 26” wide, which is too narrow for broadside folding.
We now have 3 large-format folding machines that do Broadside Folding on sheets up to 44” long!
One of the best features of a Broadside Folding is that we can produce 8-page, 10-page or 12-page self-cover Broadside Folded booklets without any glue or stitches! Fully and easily recyclable booklets are possible!
Once the first “Broadside Fold” is made, there are a few subsequent folding options: 1) Accordion Folds; 2) Gate Folds; and 3) Over & Over Folds.
- Accordion Folding is the most economical folding option. However, this Accordion Folding isn’t a great option for mailing or inserting.
- The Gate Fold option is a fun product for end users to open, plus it creates a booklet, which requires no glue or stitches.
- The Over & Over folding option is the most popular style of utilizing the Broadside Fold. Over & Over folding is a great option because it can be spot-glued or clip/wafer sealed shut.
